DIY Projects that teach life skills

Who doesn’t want their child, grandchild, or student to have opportunities to learn and grow in ways that prepare them for life?  Even better, what if you are directly involved in those opportunities which are both educational and fun?  DIY projects designed with this in mind may be what you are looking for.

Imagine that special child in your life wide-eyed and excited, eager to drive their first nail into the wood in front of them.  You’re there to help, which makes it even more exciting for them.  You’re there to teach your young person the proper way to hold a hammer, how to measure, how to keep the wood piece steady and stable against another piece of wood.  You help spread the right amount of glue on the wood pieces.  With the nail upright in the predrilled hole, your young person then swings the hammer on top of that first nail head.  Your Mission Toolbox journey has begun…

What is Mission Toolbox?

In this first post for our blog, we want to introduce you to our company and tell you about its purpose.  Our goal is to provide opportunities for adults (parents, grandparents, mentors, etc.) to help young people develop new skills and learning opportunities through DIY construction kits that are challenging, educational and fun.

Perfect for homeschooling activities, weekend projects with parents or grandparents, or as a gift to start a new hobby, our kits are designed to help young people and adult learners alike build, learn, and grow through woodworking projects.

How did we get started?

Several years ago, we started creating DIY wood-based kits for a special activity day in a local church.  We put together projects that were designed to provide hands-on building opportunities for kids that involved using tools, working with some type of wood, and learning small-scale construction techniques. What was more important, however, was that each young person would have an adult at their side, taking the time to instruct and guide them through the project. The adult was there to help, but it was always the young builder’s project to complete.  Our goal for all Mission Toolbox projects is that they rely on adult oversight and guidance to introduce young people to tools and basic building techniques that they might not have used before. We want to help kids grow in their ability to complete projects and inspire them to continually learn.

Happy Building!
